The Role of Fathers

Since Father's Day is right around the corner (are you ready for it? I'm not!) our FHE this week will be on the Role of Fathers.

Read The Family, A Proclamation to the World where it talks about the role of fathers:

"By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families" If your children are umfamiliar with the proclamtion then explain to them that the proclamtion is a very important message from the prophets describing the role of families.

Fathers play three  major roles in the family:

1. The father is the head in his family. The father leads the family by; presiding at the family meal table and at family prayer, as guided by the Spirit of the Lord, sees that their children are taught correct principles, give fathers blessings, take an active part in establishing family rules and discipline
2. The father is a teacher. Fathers teach in the home by their good example.
3. The father is a temporal provider. Fathers work outside the home to earn money that provides for his family.

For an activity make some father's day cards out of construction paper. Finish off the evening with some root beer floats!

This FHE lesson is based on Fatherhood, An Eternal Calling by Elder L. Tom Perry.
